TORONTO —; Most of the big Hollywood stars attending the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) are surrounded by handlers and whisked from one place to another in chauffeur-driven sedans or SUVs.

Not Dustin Hoffman.

The 77-year-old Oscar-winning actor went out for lunch Friday accompanied only by his wife Lisa —; and they went in a cab.

The couple, who celebrate their 34th anniversary next month,聽strolled out of their downtown hotel and got into the back of a taxi, virtually unnoticed by a crowd of star-gazers nearby.

As the photos below show, Hoffman even had a friendly wave for the Global News camera.

Early Friday evening, Hoffman will walk the red carpet at Roy Thomson Hall for the TIFF gala screening of Boychoir, the new movie from Quebec director聽Fran莽ois Girard (The Red Violin).

In the film, Hoffman plays a choir master who recognizes the extraordinary talent of a troubled young boy (Garrett Wareing) who is sent to an East Coast boarding school after being orphaned by a car accident in Texas.

The drama聽also stars Debra Winger, Josh Lucas, Kathy Bates and Kevin McHale.

Hoffman also stars in the TIFF selection The Cobbler, which screens Sept. 11 at the Elgin/Winter Garden Theatres.

The actor, who earned Oscars for his roles in 1979’s Kramer vs. Kramer and 1988’s Rain Man, is no stranger to Toronto. In addition to attending TIFF several times, Hoffman made the 2007 movie聽Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium in the city.
